Books and mysticism have always made for potent companions - and in Litwitchure, Jen Cowie and Fiona Lensvelt explore the fascinating intersection of literature, tarot and the power of the uncanny. Drawing on their book Wildcard, this conversation and interactive session invites audiences to look at the books they love through a very different kind of lens. They will discuss their belief that tarot readings should be empowering and enjoyable,
Part literary analysis, part playful experiment, part genuine exploration of what we mean when we talk about intuition, and will encourage you to approach the cards in a manner that is less about fortune telling, more about storytelling; drawing on books, films, music, history and pop culture.
Whether you have a knowledge, curiosity or skepticism for the tarot, you’ll leave with a greater understanding of where the cards come from, how they’ve changed over the years and how they can play a part in both creative practice and enjoying literature..
Format: Conversation & Interactive Elements
Themes: Non-Fiction, Adults
This event is ideal for those who are also attending 4.30pm: PIXIE - Jill Dawson, which explores her most recent novel about the life of Pamela Colman-Smith, the artist behind the Rider–Waite Tarot Deck, which has long been the standard among tarot card readers, and remains the most widely used today.
Jen Cownie & Fiona Lensvelt Books: Wildcard
Jen Cownie and Fiona Lensvelt are friends and tarot readers, who believe the magic of the cards is more in storytelling than in fortune telling, and that it's a practice which should be open to everyone and anyone. They perform together as Litwitchure and wrote Wild Card, which is the accessible, straightforward guide to the tarot that they wished they'd had when they were first learning.
