Meet the author: 5 minutes with Eva Verde

The Bury St. Edmunds Literature Festival is an annual event celebrating books and writing in the heart of East Anglia. This year, the festival will take place from the 20th to the 22nd of October, 2023. One of the highlights of this year's festival is the chance to meet acclaimed author, Eva Verde. We had the chance to sit with Eva for a brief interview, where she shared some insights into her life, her writing process, and what she'll be discussing at the festival.

Childhood Heroes

As a child, Eva's heroes included Diana Ross and She-Ra Princess of Power. She also expressed her desire to be Amy March from the beloved classic, Little Women. These characters and individuals have no doubt left a mark on Eva's imagination and storytelling.

Spark of Interest in Writing

Eva's interest in writing was sparked at a young age. "As soon as I could read and write I began dreaming up my own stories. I was a very imaginative kid, and an only child until I was seven, so inventing people and other worlds in my head was a very natural thing to do," she shared. This innate creativity and imagination have clearly influenced her writing career.

What She'll Be Discussing at the Festival

At the Bury St Edmunds Literature Festival, Eva will be discussing her debut novel, Lives Like Mine, and her latest novel, In Bloom. "Both can be described as women's fiction, and carry the recurring themes of identity, class, and female rage. Always a lot to unpack from those topics!" she exclaimed. Attendees will surely be in for a treat as Eva unravels the intricacies of her works.

Anticipations for the Festival

When asked what she's most looking forward to about the festival, Eva shared that she's excited about her books and getting to know the panel. As an author, being able to share your work and engage with other writers is always a rewarding experience.

Current Reads and Recommendations

Eva also shared her current reads and recommendations. "Though it's a hugely popular choice, I just adored Yellowface. It was just so illuminating! The book's success is definitely deserved!" she said.

A Fun Fact

Finally, Eva shared a fun fact about herself. "It is my dream to one day write for EastEnders. No other soap will do. I've watched since the start and through thick and thin I'm devoted!" she confessed.
