Last year, as part of the Abbey 1000 Celebrations, we asked the young people of Bury St Edmunds and its surrounds for stories linked to the Abbey and its history.
This year in the year of the coronation of King Charles III we are looking for stories written with the prompt of CORONATION. All entries must be a work of fiction of 500 words or less. Other than that, they are limited only by the author’s imagination!
And this year it's not just the kids who get to have the fun. We are excited to be opening up the competition to three categories: Ages 9-12, Ages 13-17 (both categories are free to enter) and Adults 18+ for which we are asking a small £5 entry fee to cover administration and prize costs.
The winning author in each category will receive a £30 Book Token, an engraved trophy and will be published in the Bury Free Press. There will also be two runners-up for each category who will each receive a £15 Book Token.
In addition to this all winning entries will be published on the Literature Festival’s website www.burylitfest.co.uk and social media.
The shortlist will be judged by a panel of authors, booksellers and industry professionals working in publishing and creative writing. Who will also provide short feedback on the winning entries.
For information, Rules of the Competition and how to submit your entry by midnight on 31st August 2023:
Happy writing!
